Last Principles
While first principles thinking breaks ideas down to their fundamental truths, =="last principles thinking"== operates in reverse. This mental trap occurs when we treat our assumptions about reality as unquestionable facts, then selectively seek evidence that supports these assumptions. We never circle back to examine the foundation of our beliefs. Like building a house on sand, we construct elaborate arguments atop shaky premises, reinforcing our conclusions while the underlying assumptions remain untested. This closed-loop thinking prevents genuine discovery and understanding, keeping us locked in comfortable but potentially flawed worldviews rather than opening us to the sometimes uncomfortable process of questioning our most basic beliefs.
